Substandard, falsified, or otherwise counterfeit drugs – including those for PrEP – have been found advertised and sold in brick-and-mortar stores and on illegal online pharmacy websites.

To address the threat of persons living with HIV and persons at risk for HIV buying medications online from illegal and grey market sources, the ASOP Global Foundation partnered with healthcare providers and public health experts leading the fight against HIV/AIDS in New York City to develop resources to educate patients, providers, and community organizations about the dangers of purchasing medications online.
